Malagos tots receive school supplies from DCWD

MOTHER AND DAUGTHER ARE HAPPY to receive a new school bag with supplies from DCWD Environment and Watershed Protection Division supervisor Lorna T. Maxino and staff Crispina B. Virador (2nd and 1st from R) as part of “DCWD Tulong sa Eskwela” program.

Pupils of Upper Malagos Day Care Center in Baguio District were all beaming with pride when they received school supplies from the Davao City Water District last June 29, 2010.

Staff from the DCWD – Environment and Watershed Protection Division distributed customized school bags containing pad papers, crayons and pencils in order to motivate the children in attaining basic education.

In partnership with the local government unit of Malagos, DCWD did this activity as part of the “DCWD Tulong Eskwela Program 2010” to provide basic educational supplies to the People’s Organizations children whose parents have been helping the LGU and DCWD in the rehabilitation and protection of the Malagos watershed.

In a statement, DCWD general manager Rodora N. Gamboa said that the agency has been helping, in any way it can, schools and day care centers in watershed areas through donations to the children and to the schools.

“In our own sincere ways, we hope to boost the morale of the kids and add enthusiasm to their daily walks to the school.  For the schools, we also look into what they need to facilitate teaching and learning and donate necessary equipment and materials”.

Through the years in several watershed areas, DCWD has been donating school bags and supplies, raincoats and slippers to school children.  To the schools, it has been giving television sets, DVD and CD players, posters, wellness or emergency kits and even rice for their feeding program.  Recently, DCWD also donated household items like bed mattresses, towels, pillows and cases, blankets and curtains to Barangays Tamugan and Tambobong for use in their official functions.
