“Age does not matter when care for the environment is concerned. The youths play important roles in its protection as they surely are its future stewards”.
This strong message was commonly conveyed by the speakers to the 109 youth-participants in this year’s ecological camp of the Davao City Water District which was held at DCWD Malagos Park in Calinan last April 30 to May 2. It carried the theme “A Decade of 3S: Service, Struggle, Success for our Watersheds and for our Furture”.
The participants attended lectures on “The Current Status of the Davao City Watersheds” by Councilor and SP chair of Committee on Environment Leonardo R. Avila, “PD 1151 or the Philippine Environmental Policy” by DCWD lawyer Bernard D. Delima, “The Importance and Effect of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Department Administrative Order (DAO)” - Protection of Davao City Watersheds” by Interface Development Interventions project coordinator for environmental concerns Ann Fuertes, and “The Service, Struggle and Success of a Young Blood” by DCWD senior industrial relation development officer Jennife D. Borong.
The camp also featured outdoor exercises, watershed observation tour and fellowship.
Other guests who came were DCWD official spokesperson Imelda T. Magsuci, WMCC president Domindor A. Lopez, and WMYC president Vina O. Cagampang.
This is the 10th eco-camp of DCWD. Its partners in conducting this activity were the Watershed Management Youth Council (WMYC) and Watershed Management Coordinating Council (WMCC).
