The Sentrong Pangkabuhayan ni Madre Ignacia, Inc. – RVM Social Ministry and Upsilon Phi Sigma – Davao City Executive Council, Inc. (UPS – DCECI) each adopted one hectare inside the Malagos watershed reservation area last February 2, 2010. The parties signed a memorandum of agreement with DCWD on said date making them 46th and 47th adopters in the roster.
The RVM Social Ministry has been an active partner of the District in the campaign on “Spare Tamugan River as Davaoeños remaining viable drinking water source.” During the MOA signing, the ministry was represented by Sr. Ma. Nancy Lao and Sr. Ma. Elvira A. Venturina while the UPS was represented by its council chair, Paciano Jamaal L. Murro and Ferdinand S. Grimaldo, vice chair.
The UPS, which has 300 members in the city, will plant 600 mahogany trees on February 13 during their 75th anniversary.
DCWD general manager Rodora N. Gamboa expressed thanks to the adopters and encourages other groups both from private and public to join in the cause. This project has been existing almost a decade now and has gained public support.
“At the onset of El Niño and La Niña, manifestations of global climate change, the DCWD is urging everyone to take part in watershed rehabilitation / reforestation to ensure sustainable drinking water supply. The message of environment protection has long been sent through various natural calamities that mankind is experiencing, yet the response from all of us is delayed. The responsibility to take care of the environment, especially the water source, is not lodged at one agency or person, rather to everyone who is stakeholder of the environment,” thus said by GM Gamboa.
Said adopt-a-site project is still open to any interested party, for queries, please call the DCWD – Environment Watershed and Protection Division at 221-9400 local 210. |
