Ateneo HS wins anew in DCWD speech tilt

 


9th DCWD Citywide Extemporaneous Speaking Tilt.  The top three winners, Ma. Eleanor R. Reserva, Ateneo HS, first placer (3rd from R); Moses Cam, Davao Christian HS, 2nd second placer (1st from R); and Roselle Joie C. Albarracin, Souhtpoint School, third placer (2nd from R). With them are the other finalists and judges (L) Ma. Leni  M. Hernandez Florence R. Rivera, and Roberta T. Cabazares.

The Ateneo De Davao University High School again emerged champion in the final rounds of 9th Extemporaneous Speaking contest sponsored by the Davao City Water District last November 19 at the SM City Event Center. The theme was “Water, Watershed, and the Environment.”

Ateneo’s bet, 4th year high Ma. Eleanor M. Reserva, grabbed the first place besting 14 other finalists from 38 participating public and private high schools that competed during the three batches of elimination rounds held last November 11 and 12. Ateneo’s debate team was also the champion in the recently concluded 2nd DCWD citywide debate contest wherein Reserva was adjudged best debater.

Reserva received P6,000.00 as cash prize and a gold medal. Other winners were Moses S. Cam, second placer, 3rd year high school student of Davao Christian High School who won a P4,000.00 prize and a silver medal; and Roselle Joie C. Albarracin, third placer, 4th year high school student of Southpoint  School who was given a P2,000  prize and a bronze medal.

The other finalists were Tanya Chrissa de Loyola, Assumption College of Davao; Job Mark P. Opalla, Brokenshire College of Toril; Marie Gabrielle R. Ba-ang, Christian Colleges of Southeast Asia; Gabriela Zenia E. Sayon, Daniel R. Aguinaldo NHS; Ellaiza Elloise V. Alcordo, Deeper Life Academy; Adrian Rey O. Grumo, F. Bangoy NHS; Mark Greg Anthony U. Junsay, Holy Cross College of Calinan; Elson Nyl Galang, Philippine Science HS – Southern Mindanao Campus (did not show  up); Alecxa Denise L. Callao, Precious International School of Davao; Jihaddodin M. Joven, Rizal Memorial Colleges; Klarissa Conception, University of Immaculate Conception. All finalists received certificates and Water Consciousness Month T-shirts as consolation prize.

The final round was judged by Florence R. Rivera, Ma. Leni M. Hernandez; and Roberta T. Cabazares. The judges during the elimination rounds were Virginia L. Guibone, Dominador A. Lopez, Rafael R. Gomez, Erolle Linus T. Miranda, Amanda Fe C. Echeverria and Dr. Lily B. Babayen-on.

The extemporaneous speaking and debate contests are conducted yearly by the Community Relations and External Affairs Department – Public Information / Relations Division headed by Maria Editha C. Monje.  These are among the highlights of the Water Consciousness Month celebration in Davao City held every November pursuant to Proclamation No. 12 issued in 2001 by Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte wherein DCWD is the spearhead agency. This year’s theme is “Barugan! Sapa sa Tamugan, Tubig Ilimnon sa Katawhan.”
