The Davao City Water District (DCWD) continues to empower the youth by linking up with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP).
Responding to the call of corporate social responsibility, the utility though its Community Relations and External Affairs Department – Community Relations Unit established the “Karunungan ng Kabataan” and “May Bukas Ka, Bata” projects to guide the youth through formal education and livelihood skills trainings.
“Through the years, the DCWD remains committed to support the youth by empowering them through education and skills trainings as it believes in their significant role in nation building,” says DCWD general manager Rodora Gamboa in a statement.
This year, DCWD’s “Karunungan ng Kabataan” project partnered with DepEd’s alternative learning system program at Doña Carmen Denia National High School benefiting 30 youth ages 15-30 who were unable to finish their elementary and high school education. In this education system, the enrollees who will pass the accreditation and equivalency test will be accelerated.
The “May Bukas Ka, Bata Project “ which is now on its 5th year, is opened anew to 16 out-of-school youth who will receive basic skills training on building wiring at the USEP from October 16-30. The USEP provides the venue and resource speakers for the training while DCWD donated P30,000 for the training materials. Since 2004, many of the graduates have been gainfully employed here and abroad.
