DCWD celebrates World Water Day locally

As the world celebrates World Water Day in March 22, Davao City Water District, celebrates locally last March 23 with its paying customers thru “Water Trivia” information campaign in its Bajada and Matina offices.

DCWD staged a mini – info booth where customers picked their trivia. Information includes global and local data on water. Freebies such as customized book marks, ref magnets, brochures and other information education communication materials were given away to them.

This is the third year that DCWD stage this event to mainstream water and watershed education among its paying customers. In the past years, DCWD commemorated the event through hanging of streamers, staging of exhibit and printing of World Water Day propaganda in the four local leading dailies. For the last three years, DCWD personalized the celebration by bringing closer the event to its customers as this proved to be effective means in raising the level of water consciousness and environmental awareness of the Davaoeños.

This customized information campaign, complements DCWD’s watershed rehabilitation program in Malagos, Mt. Talomo – Lipadas and recently, in Mt.

International World Water Day is held annually since 1993 on March 22 as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. This year, it is themed "Shared Water - Shared Opportunities". This focuses on transboundary waters and calls to nurture the opportunities for cooperation in trans boundary water management to help build mutual respect, understanding and trust among countries and promote peace, security and sustainable economic growth.
