Water in Davao City is generally seen as one of the best in the world. This was proven once again by the latest results of the laboratory analyses done on water samples collected regularly from designated sampling points in the systems. Among the 466 water samples collected during the month, only 11 tested positive of total coliform, representing 2.36 percent of the total samples, which means that 97.64 percent of the samples were free from said bacteria. The PNSDW states that for water systems that collect at least 40 monthly samples, no more than 5 percent must test positive of the bacteria. For systems that collect less than 40 samples, no more than one must yield positive results. Last month, 3.58 percent of water samples tested positive of the bacteria.

Once again, all the nine water systems passed the PNSDW standards with six systems registering no positive samples. Only Dumoy, Panacan and Tugbok registered a few positive samples, albeit still within the standard.
Water samples were analyzed using the Multiple Tube Fermentation Technique (MTFT) at DCWD’s own laboratory.
Raw water samples obtained from 16 wells, as well as those gathered from the Malagos dam, sedimentation basins and filters, tested positive of the bacteria.

| Change Meter Program Realizes 81% Accomplishment |
|
A total of 6,704 old and defective meters were replaced during the month, bringing the number to 29,119 since January, representing 80.89 percent accomplishment out of 36,000 targeted meters for replacement for the year. The same period last year realized roughly 40 percent of the same target.
The Change Meter Program hopes to help reduce NRW by eliminating meter inaccuracies brought about by old and defective customers’ meters.
|
|
Meters are considered old when they have been in service for 5 years or over. Recent data show that about 3.27 cubic meters are lost every month for every service connection with old or defective meter.
The success of the program highly depends on the availability of brand new water meters. Past experiences showed that lack of available water meters detered the Operations and Maintenance Department from meeting the targeted number of meter replacements.

| T/D Lines Extend to 1,333 Kilometers |
|
The total length of transmission and distribution lines reached 1,333 kilometers this month with the laying of 5.4 kilometers of mainlines consisting of turned-over pipelines at Northcrest Subdivision in Cabantian System, and mainline improvements at Mintal Relocation and Catalunan Grande in Tugbok System.
Majority (60.4 percent) of this month’s new pipelines had diameters of 100mm; 23.35 percent were of size 150mm; 15 percent had 200mm; and

percent were of size 50mm. Three units of residential fire hydrants were also installed at the above-mentioned subdivision.
The extensions resulted in 559 new service connections excluding 48 that were assumed from previous disconnections. Total active connections reached 165,333 as of the end of the month, 99.6 percent of which were residential connections.
