“NRW this December hit the 30-percent mark for the second time this year. The first time was in March when NRW recorded the year’s highest value of 33.58 percent.” |

The total volume of water produced this month hit 6,699,389 cubic meters, up 1.64 percent from last month’s 6,591,540 and 0.44 percent compared to the volume produced in December 2007. The increase can be attributed to longer operating time of the production wells, which averaged at 662 hours during the month, up 5.03 percent from the previous month’s 631, although interruptions in pumping operations at the sump increased 10.19

percent to 84 hours from 77 hours in November due to scheduled maintenance activities and power interruptions.
Production for the whole year totaled to 79.2 million cubic meters, 1.73 percent higher than last year’s 77.9 million. Average daily production for the year totaled to 216,410 cubic meters, up 1.45 percent from last year’s daily average of 213,307 cubic meters.

| Billed Consumption Drops 3.33% |
|
The volume of water billed to customers this month dropped 3.33 percent to only 4.6 million cubic meters compared to the previous month’s 4.8 million. This resulted in a high NRW for the month as water production increased 1.64 percent.
The total billed consumption for the year reached 56,663,464 cubic meters or about 154,818 cubic meters per day.
Subtracted from 216,410 cubic meters of average daily production, this translates to a daily NRW of 61,592 cubic meters in 2008. However, this was a big improvement from the previous year’s daily NRW of 65,261 cubic meters.

Among the water systems, Dumoy incurred the biggest drop in billed consumption—from 3.8 million cubic meters in November to 3.6 in December. Billed consumption in Panacan and Toril also fell 2.2 and 0.78 percent, respectively. The rest of the water systems incurred increases in billed consumption, with Lumondao registering the biggest increase of 32.5 percent, followed by Malagos with 11.47 percent.
Per capita consumption this month was 6.70 percent lower at 184 liters per day from 197 in November.

Non-revenue water this month went up to 30.76 percent of total production, higher by 13.08 percent from last month’s 27.20 percent. This brought the year’s NRW to 28.46 percent, almost half a percentage point closer to the target for the year.
The rise of NRW during the last month of the year is a usual pattern as billed consumption normally drops in December while production is maintained at normal levels.
This was the second time during the year that NRW went above the 30 percent mark. March recorded the highest NRW at 33.58 percent. The lowest was registered in October at 23.41 percent when billed consumption struck the 5-million-cubic-meter mark.

Among the water systems, Lumondao registered the lowest NRW of 13.11 percent. This was followed by Dumoy, the biggest system, with 24.17 percent. On the other
hand, Malagos and Tugbok recorded the highest NRW of 61.28 and 57.36 percent, respectively.
Compared to November, Cabantian showed the highest increase in NRW, which more than doubled to 47.54 percent this month from 20.34 percent a month ago. The other systems that registered NRW increases were Dumoy (8.72 percent), Panacan (32.90 percent) and Tugbok (15.82 percent).
