Davao City Water District donates one unit of drinking water fountain at Piedad Central Elementary School in Toril on September 26, 2009 which benefits around 2,200 pupils and teachers. The donation is accepted by its school principal, Aida D. Gatpolintan, Ph.D  

The drinking fountain donation is one of the many projects of the District in keeping with its corporate responsibility program.

UAP joins DCWD ‘Adopt - a - site project’

 

Another group and individuals responded to the call of environmental stewardship as they joined the Davao City Water District’s list of adopters in Mt. Talomo – Lipadas watershed.

Just recently, the United Architects of the Philippines – Mt. Apo Chapter adopted one – hectare of watershed site. Couple architects Nestor R. Ting and Maria Celina C. Ting, president of the UAP also adopted one hectare.

The partnership between DCWD and said adopters commenced during the MOA signing last October 2, 2009 at SM City Event

Center during the UAP’s 1st Construction and Building Expo, which was themed “Advancing Innovation Towards Green Architecture”.

Water applicants required to attend seminar

 

Starting October 8, 2009, people who wish to apply for water connection with the Davao City Water District will have to attend an orientation seminar as part of the requirements set by the utility.

As stated in the DCWD Citizen’s Charter, an orientation for new water service applicants is scheduled daily from Monday to Friday at the Bajada office at 10:00 AM and 3:30 PM and at the Matina office every Tuesday and Thursday following the same schedules.  Applicants must go to the Commercial Department New Service Connection Counter-1 for instructions and guidance.

General manager Rodora N. Gamboa explained that  it is necessary for applicants to be briefed about the agency, water pressure profile of all service areas, documents for submission, different water systems, fees and charges, rights and responsibilites of an account holder, meter reading and billing, water rates, and frontline services.

RC Davao rehabs Mt.Talomo – Lipadas Watershed

 

Recognizing that environment protection and conservation is a shared responsibility, Rotary Club of Davao 2000 joined the Davao City Water District’s watershed rehabilitation program by adopting two hectares at Mt. Talomo – Lipadas watershed area.

Last September 16, 2009 at Apo View Hotel, RC Davao and DCWD signed a memorandum of agreement for the adoption of a watershed site located in Manuel Guianga through a monetary donation of P6,000 a year for five years for one hectare.

The donation shall be used for the reforestation of the adopted site

including maintenance and monitoring. During the MOA signing, RC Davao was represented by Elisa W. Tay, president and Zenaida S. Lucero, secretary. The DCWD was represented by its general manager, Rodora N. Gamboa.

DCWD opens speech tilts

 

As Davao City celebrates Water Consciousness month this November with the Davao City Water District as lead agency, annual speech contests for high school students are again on.

This year, the DCWD is conducting the 2nd Debate and 9th Extemporaneous Speaking contests on November 13 and 19, 2009 respectively. Elimination rounds will be held earlier before these dates reserved for the final rounds. The general theme for both contests is “Water, watershed and environment”.

All public and private secondary schools in the city are invited to send participants to said competitions. Only the first eight schools to confirm in the debate contest will be admitted.  

Entry forms and contests guidelines will be delivered by the DCWD Public Information / Relations Division to all schools in Davao City. The same can also be accessed at DCWD website www.davao-water.gov.ph.
